Since I was doing it on my own time at home, that time often was limited.

I would absolutely participate again if this were offered. I am sure there are many things that we could spend time on. I wonder if it would be good to concentrate on several areas that we have more interest in, or would find more beneficial to our library and work, than just touch the surface of so many? I did like learning about so many things, and I would assume there are many more, so I am not sure which way to proceed if it were to offered again.

Thanks for providing me the experience to learn a little about the enormous amount of activities on the web, a great experience!techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-74487327154242149922008-03-25T05:48:00.000-07:002008-03-25T05:59:11.227-07:00#22 ResolutionI am delighted to have made it through the "things"! I have learned a lot, and even though there were many times I felt that it was taking up too much time and I had too many other things that I should be doing, it was time well spent. I do resolve to continue learning and I like the new sites I learned about in thing 21. I think they will help me to do my job better and be better informed. We are a relatively small group and in the school setting it can be lonely, so discussion groups are great! I also would like to find a directory of many of the "things" that we have used, because I know that in my "busy-ness" I will forget about so many.

I wish my colleagues would have taken part in this so that we could have continued a dialogue on what we have learned, but most either weren't interested or lacked the time to participate. We try to get together to share with each other once a month. You did hit the nail on the head though as far as all of the activities that take up our day and finding time to fit everything in.

I would like to take the time now that I am nearly finished to look at the other blogs and see what other people are doing as well as continue my own use of the "things".

Thanks for making this available for us!techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-28014346635041884672008-03-24T08:03:00.000-07:002008-03-24T08:08:32.806-07:00#21I had a lot of fun looking at all of the things on this "Thing". I joined the teacher librarian ning as well as the 23 things on a stick. These look to be very useful to me.

Although I have known about Web Junction, I hadn't used it. After looking at it now I know there are things there that will be useful to me.

I found it interesting that in reading the some comments on these sites, there are a number of people that have said the same as I have been thinking all along...that they will go back and spend more time in some of these areas so they can learn more and see how and if they can apply these "things" to their libraries.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-34735177046005637722008-03-24T08:02:00.000-07:002008-03-24T08:03:01.787-07:00
Find more photos like this on 23 Things on a Stick
techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-85643926567175116242008-03-24T08:00:00.000-07:002008-03-24T08:01:39.256-07:00
View my page on 23 Things on a Stick
techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-59580682100127263972008-03-21T14:51:00.000-07:002008-03-21T14:56:54.512-07:00My SpaceIt was interesting to see My Space. I actually thought it would be sort of like a yearbook with pictures and some information and then if you were invited, you would go into an account and see more. Imagine my surprise!!

I can see why some large libraries would utilize this because so many young people spend so much time on these sites. I most likely will never again venture onto one of these sites. I don't think I would use this in my library. But I am glad to be experiencing so many of these sites that I have heard about, and so many that I had never heard of. It is good to be at least a little up on what is going on. I suppose in no time, this will be a drop in the bucket to what else is out there.

I do see pictures, words, etc. that I think are inappropriate and feel bad to see that it is considered "normal" by many people.

I likes some of the reviews I read about books. And spent some time on the Hennepin County Library My Space page.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-86400602501039590672008-03-20T19:14:00.000-07:002008-03-20T19:19:30.167-07:00PodcastsI really enjoyed using the podcast links and listening to a variety of information. Although each was a little different, all were easy to use. I liked the ease of finding categories of interest to listen to. Some of the subjects were not what I was expecting to hear. I recently purchased a iPod for the main purpose of listening to podcasts and this has really helped me in finding lots of interesting things to listen to. I find interesting things to listen to but don't want to sit at the computer to listen to them, these directories give me lots to choose from.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-85035956239232299892008-03-18T18:21:00.000-07:002008-03-18T18:25:56.898-07:00You TubeI posted my You Tube video before I saw it as one of the links in our assignment. Darn! But it was still one of my favorites, along with the young man and the creativity found in reading his WWI book. I had a lot of fun looking at these. I have looked at You Tube some but not about libraries so it was a new experience.

I think that I could use it as an advertizement with older students in my elementary school, but otherwise it most likely wouldn't be suited to an elementary school. It would be fun to shoot video such as the library tour and post, or give assignments to students and post those. Although You Tube is blocked (and rightfully so) that may make it difficult to do much with.

I think the site a lot of fun, and can be valuable. Ninety minutes later, I feel as though I have just made a dent in investigating the material that is available. I often get frustrated with the amount of time I seem to spend on many of the assignments.

I use the Gale Learning Databases often at my elementary school. Usually the infobits areas and the online encyclopedias get the most use. We seem to be finding more objectionable sites on the internet while using search engines lately and are leaning towards using these areas more. THere is so much available here. I particularly like the folder available for making assignments in EBSCO, and I want to explore this more and use it with classes. I just wish that I had the time at school to explore the many areas available. I hear so many teachers say the same thing about technology and using it in their classrooms and here I am doing the same!

The one hindrance that I see for most of us media specialists is that we are one person in charge of so many areas that our time is so limited. In my 8 years of being in this job, I see my position continuing to get added responsibilities with no extra time or help. I think it is a sign of the schools economic difficulties and it probably isn't going to improve. We just keep doing our best.

Thanks for the assistance through 23 things on a stick...I can learn about so many new things, and for the wonderful resources that ELM offers to the school community!techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-39705806625860498702008-03-16T13:17:00.000-07:002008-03-16T13:20:45.715-07:00#16 RPC and Assignment CalculatorI thought the Research Project Calculator was an awesome tool for students. I liked the suggestions and things to consider and the ability to have prompts e-mailed to yourself as a reminder.

Being in an elementary school library I am unsure of how much help this would be except possibly with the 5th or 6th grade on occassion.

I was unable to get on the assignment calculator, the web site must have been down but will look at that later.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-85771124353140001552008-03-16T13:05:00.001-07:002008-03-16T13:10:15.774-07:00#15 Second LifeI looked at the video and I can see that this sort of thing would be of interest to young people, but there isn't any interest for me. I could certainly see the value of libraries having information on something like this and also having research of some sort available there. I am excited to try out the Zamzar site when I can't open something at school. It doesn't happen offen but it will be good to try it when it does occassionally come up.

I looked at Pageflakes which was incredibly easy to use. I spent some time exploring: the Backpack calendar site, Ta-da, 30 boxes, and Stikket where I liked the idea of gathering of information . I also looked at stickies.

You can imagine that I spent way more time on this than I should have. I would like to see whether I can use the calendar site at school in the media center. I didn't know about these sites. I am unsure whether they are something that I would use. I read several papers on the internet, but I am not sure that I would want to choose to read articles based on popularity. I do think that this would be of interest to many people. I don't have the time.

After viewing 3 of these, I created an account on the Washington Post and shared it on Reddit. I tried to go to the Star Trib, since I read that online each day, but it didn't seem to have a sharing area. I will have to look again.

I see that I need to edit the above. I did find in going back where you can share on the StarTrib site. It was very plainly at the beginning of the article, I was looking at the end. They did seem to have a limited number to share with though.

Also, I see that my sharing hasn't taken effect. They say I am trying to share too fast and need to wait 10 min. before trying again. Hopefully it will work.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-61225385074103800982008-02-23T13:39:00.001-08:002008-02-23T13:44:00.975-08:00#11I think that Del.icio.us is a great thing! To be able to bookmark sites and be able to call them up wherever you are is a great tool, and can be used in many ways. At first I thought that it would have no value for me...and maybe it won't since my bookmarked sites at school are saved on the network so I can bring them up at any computer I am at. Also, I usually import them to a jump drive and take them home to install on my home computer. So in a way, I have bypassed all of that. Yet, this is a good tool for those who don't have the notworked access, or move from place to place.

I can see use for tagging. I don't believe that I will spend the sort of time on the internet that would make that worth while.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-74796540049931652462008-02-18T17:26:00.000-08:002008-02-23T13:00:30.917-08:00#10I edited the 23 Things on a Stick wiki. I changed the title by using color and a different font, as well as changing the size. I also added a paragraph to an existing sentiment about someone's wish to have the 23 things grouped for certain librarians that it would pertain to more. My response was in italics and was followed with my initials.

I think that wikis are a great tool, and I loved the video clip showing a good use for them. I do caution my school to use wikipedia carefully since I know of people who have purposely changed statements so others couldn't get information (this pertained to a trivia contest---and not wanting others to get the information as quickly as they found it).

I also noticed that one of the wikis I looked at for this assignment stated that there had been too much vandalism on their wiki so now one must log in to edit it. That is unfortunate.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-12164492968917184412008-02-18T16:54:00.000-08:002008-02-23T13:05:07.227-08:00#9Both of the tools are good for collaborating with others over the internet. I really don't think that most people have any idea of what is all available. Truly, those who are spending an inordinate time on the internet are the only ones that know many of these tools exist, and probably even then it is just a small part of what is available. Even though so much of this is very neat...I think there is so much more to do with my time and energy than to keep up on all of this.

Absolutely are there uses for all of these things, and it is surely opening my eyes! Lately, I hear more and more about the web slowing down, or just this morning a techy guy was talking on the radio about the latest virus that at least as of yet doesn't have a protection device. Makes me wonder if we truly are going to have an internet "crash" or at least a big slowdown. With all of the shopping, information, picture sharing etc. that is going on, I think it is likely.

Younger people have easy access to so much.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-33303712571940845042008-02-18T12:54:00.000-08:002008-02-18T12:59:00.791-08:00#7Finally, an area that I am very used to using! E-mailing is a major source of communication for me with friends and family. I do some IMing. I use it more in getting assistance over the internet than as a means of communication with friends and family. I have used text messaging at times but not often. I have also "attended" webinars, etc. which is a great way to get information when it isn't available in person.

Working in a public school we have too many measures in place and students aren't even allowed to use e-mail. I think that with all there is to offer these days, that is going to need to change.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-60888394669198135612008-02-18T12:32:00.000-08:002008-02-18T12:37:02.050-08:00#6<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjitGUb9o02-V-rH3lICpTln57GgwsHw4vAmLihB9dWe3PR7Lrv536IFEHrIe2SFk0d8mGXtBe5DQabp3drH4PdCBHz-TSvb-l-6yXEPiZTB-RHkaNQz_qHsH4eDDel8GJYkGyFHVg68s/s200/golf+trading+card.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5168421929815930338" />
This was a fun one! And as usual I spent too much time playing. I am getting nervous that I won't get through all of the assignments since I always end up doing too much at each one.

For some reason, the trading card I kept trying to create would not work. It was a picture of me reading to a class. Yet, when I downloaded one of my husband while golfing there was no problem.techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172526286914744169.post-37268209741775961712008-02-18T12:03:00.001-08:002008-02-18T12:03:58.090-08:00as seen at Fort Worth Stockyards techno safarihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13727017288934564798noreply@blogger.com0
